Willow Glen Pet Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team in our state-of-the-art 4,500 sq. ft. facility, built in March 2023. Our hospital is fast-paced, and we need a knowledgeable, energetic, and compassionate individual who is passionate about patient care and client service. As a three-doctor general practice hospital serving cats and dogs, we have been dedicated to building strong client relationships for over ten years. Client satisfaction is a top priority, and we are seeking an RVT who values high-quality care and excellent communication. Strong communication skills are essential to maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment. What We’re Looking For: We need a confident RVT who is skilled in: Patient restraint & client communication (phone & in-person) Preparing patients for surgery (blood draws, IV catheter placement, etc.) Assisting in surgical procedures & monitoring anesthesia Diagnostic imaging (radiographs) & medication administration Scheduling & maintaining a clean, organized workspace Training and mentoring veterinary assistants Experience with Vetter software (a plus but not required) Our team is collaborative, supportive, and highly skilled, and we’re seeking someone who thrives both independently and in a team environment while also enjoying the opportunity to mentor others. Work Hours: Mon through Fri: 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM Sat: 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM (candidates must have the flexibility to work at least 2 Saturday shifts per month) No Remote Work Duties/Responsibilities: Clinical Duties/_Patient Care:_ Prepare treatment rooms and animals for surgery, such as shaving surgical areas. Care for and monitor the condition of pets recovering from surgery, ensuring they are comfortable and clean. Observe the behavior and condition of animals and monitor their clinical symptoms. Administer emergency first aid, such as emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures. Give enemas and perform catheterizations, ear flushes, intravenous feedings, or gavages. Dress and suture wounds and apply splints or other protective devices. Bathe animals, clip nails or claws, and brush or cut animals’ hair. Perform dental work, such as cleaning, polishing, or extracting teeth. Supervise or train veterinary students or other staff members. Participate in continuing education and professional organizations. Stay updated with the latest advancements in veterinary technology. Support Veterinarians: Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures. Administer anesthesia to animals under the direction of a veterinarian and monitor animals’ responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted. Provide veterinarians with the correct equipment or instruments as needed. Take animals into treatment areas and assist with physical exams or procedures, such as restraining animals. Aid with animal euthanasia and the disposal of remains. Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, or treatments as prescribed by veterinarians. As the veterinarian directs, prepare and fill prescriptions, measure medications, label containers, and store medications correctly. Assist with physical therapy and rehabilitation. Laboratory & Diagnostics: Take and develop/process diagnostic radiographs using X-ray equipment. Draw blood and other samples for diagnostic testing. Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination. Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, or feces, such as urinalyses, blood counts, and parasite tests, to assist in diagnosing and treating animal health problems. Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment. Clinic Maintenance: Maintain laboratory, research, or treatment records and inventories of pharmaceuticals, equipment, or supplies. Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the clinic. Clean and sanitize animal holding areas, cages, surgery suites, examination rooms, or animal loading or unloading facilities to control the spread of disease. Monitor and maintain controlled drug inventory, other medications, medical supplies, and related logbooks. Notify the practice manager or veterinarian when orders need to be placed when inventory of medical supplies is low. Clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments, equipment, machinery, or materials to ensure proper working conditions. Adhere to safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe environment for animals and staff. Administrative Duties: Maintain thorough patient records, updating details of treatments, medications, and test results. Schedule appointments and procedures for animals. Perform various office, clerical, or accounting duties, such as reception, billing, bookkeeping, or selling products. Client Interactions: Creates a positive experience for both the pet owners and their pets. Discuss and update clients on their medical health, post-operative status, and post-visit care for their pets. Educate, counsel, and advise pet owners on animal health care, behavior problems, or nutrition. Handle any client concerns with empathy and professionalism. When clients are upset or angry, involve a management team member to prevent escalation or when necessary. Answers any questions asked by clients and manages follow-up communications. Direct clients to the appropriate person if they have medical questions (no medical advice is to be given over the phone unless stated by a doctor). Required Skills/Abilities: Genuinely enjoys and shows compassion when working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain. Will not share or discuss sensitive or confidential information and personal financial information of others or the practice with coworkers, clients, or vendor reps as long as you are an employee. Can stay calm and efficient during stressful situations or a medical crisis. Maintains professional conversations (no gossiping) while working with clients, vendor reps, doctors, and staff members. Understands all vaccinations, core vs. elective, and vaccine protocols, explaining their pets’ needs/ requirements well to clients. Proficient with computer systems and software: Microsoft Office, word processing software, practice management/medical software (DaySmart and WEAVE), and label-making software. Education and Experience: A.S. in Veterinary Technology or equivalent. Appropriate state certification and licensing are required. At least two years of relevant RVT experience (clinical environment is preferred). Proficiency with computer systems and software, especially those related to appointment scheduling and record-keeping General understanding of animal physiology and veterinary terminology. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, bending, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times and have physical stamina for holding/lifting moving animals.
