Field Scenario

A sitter’s first visit with a new client’s dog reveals the dog is noticeably fearful and avoidant around unfamiliar people.

What You Actually Do

  • Take a slower, gentler approach rather than immediately attempting full handling
  • Let the dog acclimate at its own pace during this and possibly subsequent visits
  • Avoid forcing interaction, which risks both the dog’s wellbeing and the sitter’s safety
  • Communicate honestly with the owner if the fearfulness seems beyond what can be safely managed
