Field Scenario

A dog has a bleeding paw wound after stepping on something sharp, and the bleeding doesn’t stop after a couple minutes of applying direct pressure.

What You Actually Do

  • Continue applying firm, direct pressure while preparing to seek professional veterinary care
  • Recognize bleeding that doesn’t stop with direct pressure as needing professional treatment
  • Avoid removing an embedded object if one is suspected, since this could worsen bleeding
  • Keep the pet as calm and still as reasonably possible while transporting them for care
